Welcome to MPS...
I'm Dr. Amy Murrell, a licensed psychologist, published author and retired tenured professor. Here at Murrell Psychological Services, LLC (MPS), I offer consultation for other professionals as well as therapy and assessment services designed to help children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families navigate life's challenges. I truly believe that all of us get stuck sometimes. We all have our own set of limitations, but I believe we also have everything we need to live rich and meaningful lives. We are - at our core - whole, complete and perfect. I do not mean that we are flawless, but that we are right where we are meant to be, at this place and time; and all our behaviors serve a purpose. They are not bad (nor good) and neither are we. Sometimes, we just need to find more values-consistent ways to meet our needs. That is where I am most useful to people. If that interests you, click below to discover how my compassionate, evidence-based approach might support you and/or your family.
More information about services offered
I provide a range of focused services tailored to meet individual and family needs.
Therapy Services
I have generalist training in clinical psychology, with a specialization in child and family work. This means that I have both training and experience working with individual and group adult clients but that is not my expertise. I also have extensive training with couples/marriage therapy, but not as much recent experience in it.
My expertise with the most experience is:
therapy with kids ages 4 to 17 in individual, group, and family therapy.
adults who are seeking parent training or therapy directly related to parenting
whole family counseling
I am not well-suited for treating eating disorders or addiction, but do frequently work with a wide number of presenting issues in a highly competent manner.
I do not take insurance and my current rate is $130/hr.
Insightful Assessments
My assessment training is as a general clinical psychologist with one semester of internship training in neuropsychology. This means that I am qualified to comprehensive psychosocial-educational assessment batteries that could include very basic neuropsychological screeners, but I am not qualified to do a neuropsychological assessment. I am able to make referrals for that if needed. I often refer to other professionals (psychiatrists, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, etc.) as needed as well. I am able to do assessments for:
ADHD
Addiction Disorders
Autism Spectrum Disorder
Anxiety Disorders
Depressive Disorders
Disruptive Behavior Disorders (CD/ODD)
Eating Disorders
Intellectual Disorders
Learning Disorders
Mania
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Psychosis
Trauma and Stress Disorders
Importantly, I typically do a broad assessment, so differential and comorbid diagnoses can be appropriately made. This full assessment costs $1750. If only certain tests, or a re-evaluation, is needed then costs may be reduced.
Professional Consultation
I am a Peer-Reviewed ACT Trainer and a Fellow of the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science. I am also a Mentor through the Mighty KidLit Network. Due to my expertise in both psychology and clinical science writing, developing professionals sometimes want to consult with me about their skill development.
I am available to do clinical and writing consultation during my regular working hours as long as I am not seeing a client or writing myself.
My rate to do professional consultation is $150/hr.
Please note that clinical consultation is different from supervision.
Your journey to lasting change
Therapy is a collaborative, long-term healing process, not a quick fix. I will work hard with you and I expect you to work hard for yourself.

Tailored therapy approaches
I specialize in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a cognitive behavioral treatment. ACT addresses contextual factors such as culture, gender, race, disability status, and age, and has strong support for various disorders. This approach helps individuals identify what can be changed through techniques like social skills training, anger and time management, mindfulness, and cognitive reappraisal, while also fostering acceptance for things beyond our control.
Because ACT is firmly grounded in addressing the behavior in its context, treatment may look like play, art or music therapy, somatic work, or talk therapy - depending on what is needed in the moment.
